Capital Xelles get huge boost

Cumberland City Councillor and amateur sports champion Stephen Blais is donating $2,000 to the Capital Xelles Basketball club, a competitive basketball team based in Orléans, to pay for operating costs such as new uniforms, basketballs, and gymnasium rentals.

“I am proud to contribute to programs like the Capital Xelles, which help athletes reach their full potential in academics and athletics,” says Councillor Stephen Blais. “Building strong fundamentals in the community and in school are key in creating tomorrow’s top athletes.”

The Capital Xelles Basketball club is dedicated to developing athletes between ages 10-18, both on and off the court. Their approach to coaching focuses on not only creating athletes, but “student athletes”, with education being critical to building well-rounded individuals.

“We really appreciate the support from Councillor Blais” says Chris Chapman, board member and tournament director. “It was nice of him to come by and speak with the children about staying healthy and active”.

The funds will be going to gym costs as well as operating costs uniforms, balls, and gym rentals. The funds were raised by private donors through the annual Action Orléans Golf Classic and donated on behalf of Action Orléans – a not-for-profit club that has been helping sports and other groups throughout Ottawa.
